Performance Claims Validation
Deodorization Efficacy Based Upon Objective, Instrument Based Protocols
As shown in the previous sections, for the last 14 years
Microanalytics has been developing, optimizing and using the AromaTrax™
MDGC-MS-O technology to quickly resolve real-world consumer complaints
related to aroma, flavor and odor quality. During that time, hundreds of
related projects have been undertaken and successfully completed.
Although a large percentage of these projects are of a crisis-driven,
problem solving nature another significant category has developed around
product deodorization efficacy claims validation.
This category has evolved as a result of the dramatic
growth in targeted odor remediation products and services for the
consumer market (i.e. breath, cigarette breath, pet urine on fabric,
room deodorizers, body odor, etc). Marketing claims validation based
solely upon composite assessment of trained sensory panelist can be
difficult to substantiate and reproduce due to differences in quality
and training of the sensory panels in conjunction with the subjective
and variable nature of the sensory ‘only’ assessment format.
In contrast, the Microanalytics approach is to utilize
our AromaTrax™ MDGC-MS-O technology to bridge the gap between sensory
and instrumentation. Thereby, subjective, ‘sensory only’ based product
deodorization efficacy claims can often be translated to objective
‘instrument primarily with sensory oversight’ alternatives. The process
for achieving this translation is reasonably straightforward; proceeding
stepwise as follows:
